Different types of zippers

Zippers are found in various items in our daily life, such as clothes, bags, outdoor products, tents, and so on. If you look closely, you should find that the zippers used in different products will differ. It is also true that there are different types and designs of zippers to suit the needs of different products. In this article, we will share with you the different types of zippers and their applications.

Types of zippers

1. Separate zippers (openings)

Often found on jackets, undershirts, and other coats, a separating zipper allows the sides of the tape to completely separate when the zipper is fully unzipped.

If you refer to the zipper on the left in the photo above, you will see the end of the zipper with a pin and a holding box. These parts play a critical role when zipping up a jacket or other coat, as the zipper will not work correctly if the pin is not properly inserted into the retention box.

I'm pretty sure we've all been there once, fumbling with the zipper and claiming it's broken when the pin wasn't inserted correctly. When you take your time, the zipper will work properly.

2. Closed zippers

Look at the pants in your closet or the cute leather boots you bought in the front room last month. The zipper you see on these products is closed. This type of zipper does not fall at the bottom (unless it breaks).

The bottom stop is located at the bottom of the teeth of the closed zipper. This is a separate part, and unlike a separating zipper, it does not allow the sides of the tape to separate.

3. Two-way separating zippers

Two-way release zippers can be found on sleeping bags, rain jackets, and winter parkas. These zippers allow items to be fully zipped up at the top and unzipped at the bottom.

Two-way zippers are especially common in winter parka coats.
