In the custom zipper, different parts of the zipper have different official names. The sliders of the zipper have many names in our daily life, such as "pully thingy," "zipper car," "teeth joiners," "pullers," etc. teeth joiners," "pullers" and so on. The official industry term we use is "slider."
Each slider is made specifically for the zipper to which the slider will be applied. In our zipper development and design, we tried to use metal sliders on nylon coil zippers, but the zippers did not work correctly. There is a difference between the sliders of different zippers, and it is impossible to switch between them at will. In this article, we will share the difference between different zipper sliders.
Metal Zippers
With any type of metal zipper, you will notice teeth extending from the zipper tape on both sides of the front and back of the zipper. The teeth extend from the tape on both sides, and in the picture below, you will see the slider opening cast with an inverted "U" and a right-side-up "U" to slide along the zipper teeth. If you try to use this metal slider on a nylon coil zipper, the slider will not engage properly, and the teeth may not close.
Tip: Plastic molded sliders are cast similarly to metal zippers. One hint is that plastic molded sliders of the same size as metal zippers will work fine. However, metal sliders will not work with plastic molded zippers of the same size.
Nylon Coil Zippers
The slider is entirely different from metal and plastic molded zippers on nylon coil zippers. As shown in the picture below, the slider has a flat side. This flat side is because nylon coil zippers do not have teeth on the backside. It is important to remember this when trying to replace the slider. We have had people try to change sliders, which did not work correctly because they were the wrong type of slider. One size does not fit all.
